ABOUT THIS DOG
Short Story-Pedigree is controversial. Unregistered brindle bitch born in 1916. Mr. Charles Hudson kindly provided the following interesting account: "I bought her through an advertisement in 'Our Dogs' about the beginning of 1916. She was about six months old, a beautiful mahogany brindle, and when fully matured about twenty-five pounds. Unfortunately, I never got her pedigree. I took her to sea with me in H.M.S. Lobelia (which commissioned in Glasgow in 1916) to the Mediterranean. We were based on Malta, and after two years she followed me home in a destroyer and joined me in Glasgow. She was absolutely fearless, and the idol of everyone on board. She took to water like a Spaniel, and when in harbour often jumped overboard from the top deck to join the men when they were playing water-polo. I gave her the name Fringes because I took her to sea in one of the ships that were known during the war as "Fringes of the Fleet". That name was given to destroyers, sloops, and minesweepers."
