Comprehensive Shopping List for New Bull Terrier Owners

There are things that your Bull Terrier Puppy or (as they apply) your older Bull Terrier will need. In preparation for the new arrival, a recommended list of items you will want to have on hand are:

  • Food:- usually the puppy will remain on the food they have been fed at the breeder's for at least the first couple of weeks or until they are settled in their new home. Make sure you ask the breeder what brand to purchase and the recommended serving size for each meal as this will help to prevent any unnecessary tummy upset. It is important that puppies are fed three (3) times a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner until they are at least 4 months of age.
  • Food and Water Bowls:– Stainless Steel bowls and buckets are easy to clean and do not harbor bacteria like plastic, etc. They also do not cause allergic reactions in dogs who may be sensitive to other materials. 2 quart/64 oz. Stainless Steel bowls for food and 2 quart/64 oz. Stainless Steel buckets for water. It helps to purchase multiple sets in order to always have a clean bowl and bucket.
  • Kennel:- To begin crate training a puppy, a Vari-Kennel style plastic crate, measuring 28” x 20 ½” x 21 ½” will help puppy learn to be house trained and keep his kennel clean. Once puppy is successful in sleeping through the night without soiling his kennel, make sure that you buy the size that will be appropriate for them when they are fully grown. It must be large enough so that (when fully grown) they can easily stand up and turn around inside it. For an adult dog a Vari-Kennel style plastic crate, size 400/Large, measuring 36"L x 24 1/2"W x 26"H or larger. You can also use a wire crate of the same dimensions.
  • Fleece bedding for kennel.
  • Martingale Collar and 2 Leashes (6’ x ½” leather is easier on the hands than nylon.) Buy the collar small enough to fit your puppy (12”-16”) and buy new collars as they grow larger. Or a purchase a 1” wide 15”-22” or 19”x27” collar for an older adult.
  • Dremel for grinding nails (can be purchased at hardware stores or online), use fine/120 grit Dremel sanding bands.
  • Styptic powder to stop nail bleeding.
  • A natural dog shampoo.
  • Soft beds (one or two):- for them to sleep in when they are not in their kennel.
  • Finger tooth brush- this is a soft, rubber cap that fits over the human's finger. This soft brush will help the puppy get used to having their teeth brushed regularly. Once that is achieved, then move on to a regular or electric toothbrush.
  • Enzymatic tooth paste.
  • Soft bristle brush: - for daily grooming of your puppy. For older adults - to strip dead coats (twice weekly), SleekEZ Deshedding Tool (size medium)
  • One or two soft toys or for adults, Black Kongs, any hard “dura chew” Nylabone product, West Paw brand toys, Goughnuts and when supervised Fat Cat brand and Tuffie brand toys. Select things in a size larger than you think. Multiple toys when dogs are playing together.
  • Miscellaneous:- Puppy sized Treats Poop Bags Bath Towels Non-slip Mat for the sink or tub
